Designer Secundary High Voltage

    • Vicoma Groningen
  • €3,213 - €4,284 per month

Job description

What are we looking for?

Are you a decisive, customer-focused and knowledgeable professional with a passion for technology and innovation? At Vicoma, we are always open to new talent who want to contribute to a future-proof industry.

Do you want to work on complex industrial challenges?

At Vicoma, you get this opportunity within an organization where craftsmanship, flexibility, and a warm, collegial culture are central. You work alongside colleagues who know the profession inside and out; many have been with the company for years, meaning there is a wealth of knowledge and experience you benefit from every day. At Vicoma, professionals are given the space to take responsibility and work together on solutions that truly make an impact.

What can you expect?

Your role

As a Designer Secondary High Voltage, you develop secondary systems for high-voltage substations into clear, accurate, and executable drawings and documentation. This includes control systems, protection systems, terminal blocks, cable lists, and schematics required to safely build, modify, or commission a substation.

You work on projects for clients such as TenneT, Qirion, and Enexis—from modifications to existing substations with legacy installations to the detailed design of new or modernized substations within voltage levels ranging from 10 kV to 150 kV. You translate the engineer’s design into a complete and buildable detailed package.

You collaborate closely with engineers, project management, and site execution within multidisciplinary teams with short lines of communication. With room for smart, practical detailing solutions, your focus is on quality, completeness, and constructability—the design must not only be correct on paper but also work in practice.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities include, among others:

  • Developing secondary installations into schematics and detailed drawings (control, protection, and automation);

  • Preparing cable lists, terminal block overviews, connection lists, and work packages;

  • Processing revisions and modifications in existing substation documentation and as-built packages;

  • Reviewing drawings and documentation for consistency, completeness, and applicability for construction;

  • Coordinating with engineers on technical input, design changes, and detailed decisions;

  • Collaborating with primary engineering, civil engineering, and project management to achieve a fully executable overall design;

  • Working with tools such as ELCAD, AutoCAD, Excel, and other project- or client-specific software;

  • Supporting site execution and commissioning activities.

Job requirements

What do you bring?

Above all: you read this vacancy and think, this is something I can do and want to do!

  • A completed vocational (MBO) degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a comparable field;

  • Basic knowledge of electrical schematics and technical documentation;

  • Experience with AutoCAD, ELCAD, or EPLAN is an advantage, but not required;

  • Interest in secondary systems, control, and protection within the energy or industrial environment;

  • A precise, structured way of working and clear communication skills;

  • Willingness to occasionally visit or support work at client locations.

Experience with high-voltage substations is not required. With a solid foundation in electrical design, curiosity, and motivation, you can learn this profession in practice, supported by colleagues who guide you in projects and in the standards of grid operators.

This role requires curiosity, ownership, and the drive to deliver quality—not because it is required, but because you are genuinely interested in understanding how installations truly work, and in continuously improving alongside specialists.
