What can you expect?

Your role

As a Senior High Voltage Engineer – Secondary Systems, you are responsible for the independent design, assessment and optimization of secondary systems within high-voltage projects. You work on complex technical challenges related to control, protection and automation of high-voltage substations, and act as a subject matter expert within your field.

Depending on the project, you take on a leading role as a (Lead) Engineer and actively contribute to quality assurance, knowledge sharing and the further development of engineering standards.

You will work on projects for clients such as TenneT, Qirion and Enexis: ranging from the modernization of existing substations (brownfield) to the full engineering of new substations within voltage levels of 10 kV to 150 kV. You are involved from concept and basic design through to realization and as-built.

Within multidisciplinary project teams, you collaborate closely with primary engineers, civil engineers, project management, clients and suppliers.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities include:

  • Designing and engineering secondary systems for high-voltage substations (control, protection and automation);

  • Developing engineering from concept and basic design through to as-built;

  • Preparing and verifying schematics, cable calculations, connection diagrams and technical documentation;

  • Advising on complex technical challenges and making design decisions;

  • Reviewing and validating the work of fellow engineers;

  • Implementing modifications in existing substations and working with legacy installations;

  • Aligning with clients on technical content, progress and solutions;

  • Ensuring quality, safety and compliance with client specifications and standards (e.g. NEN).

In addition:

  • Acting as (Lead) Engineer on larger or more complex projects;

  • Initiating and improving engineering standards, tools and methodologies;

  • Coaching and guiding junior and medior engineers within the team;

  • Contributing to knowledge development and standardization within the discipline.

You are also responsible for:

  • Safeguarding technical quality and consistency across projects;

  • Preparing progress, quality and cost reports;

  • Identifying risks and proposing improvements;

  • Securing knowledge and further professionalizing the High Voltage – Secondary Systems discipline.

What do you bring?

Above all: you read this vacancy and think, this is something I can do and want to do!

  • A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (e.g. in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a comparable field);

  • At least 5 years of experience in (E&I) engineering;

  • Experience working in project-based environments;

  • In possession of a VOL-VCA certificate (or willing to obtain one);

  • Good command of the Dutch (C1) and English (B2) languages;

  • Affinity with sustainability and innovation within industry;

  • Willingness to work (occasionally) at client locations.
