Your role

As Senior Engineer Mechanical & Factory Design at our Velsen office, you will take technical responsibility for complex mechanical and structural engineering challenges in industrial environments. You will independently execute projects and technical assignments, from analysis and calculation through client coordination and completion within the agreed hours.

The main focus is on FEM calculations involving strength, stability and remaining service life. You will work on both greenfield and brownfield projects and apply standards including the Eurocodes. This role is not simply about operating software: you understand the underlying mechanics, assess whether results are realistic and translate them into safe and practical solutions.

Alongside your own technical work, you will guide and review colleagues who are working on complex calculations. You will also take on project management responsibilities, monitor hours and progress, and maintain relationships with existing clients. Based on your technical credibility, you recognise new engineering needs and help develop additional assignments.

You will have considerable freedom to determine the right technical approach and solutions. At the same time, peer review is an important part of our way of working: the work of senior engineers is also checked by a colleague. Depending on the project, you will work mainly from the office, partly from home and approximately 10 to 20% at client or project sites.

What will you be doing?

• Independently performing and reviewing complex FEM calculations for strength, stability and remaining service life

• Designing and analysing structures and installations in industrial greenfield and brownfield environments

• Interpreting and applying relevant standards, including the Eurocodes

• Assessing whether calculation results are technically explainable, realistic and safe

• Setting up, managing and completing projects and smaller technical assignments within planning and budget

• Guiding, coaching and technically reviewing colleagues working on complex calculations

• Clearly communicating technical findings and solutions to clients, colleagues and project teams

• Maintaining client relationships and identifying new or additional project opportunities with existing clients

• Working with software including Ansys, SCIA Engineer, IDEA StatiCa, Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD

• Building and applying organisation-specific and client-specific knowledge in new projects

What do you bring with you?

• A completed bachelor’s or master’s degree (e.g., Mechanical Engineering or similar)

• Substantial relevant experience with complex mechanical and structural calculations in an industrial environment

• VCA VOL certified (or willing to obtain this certification)

• Strong command of both Dutch (C1) and English (B2)

• Affinity with sustainability and innovation within the industrial sector

• Willingness to (occasionally) work at client locations

• Demonstrable experience with FEM analyses and a strong understanding of the underlying mechanics and calculation methods

• Knowledge of strength, stability and remaining service life calculations and experience applying the Eurocodes

• Experience with one or more of the following tools: Ansys, SCIA Engineer, IDEA StatiCa, Inventor and AutoCAD
