Junior Secondary High Voltage Engineer

    • Vicoma Groningen
  • €3,213 - €4,284 per month

Job description

What are we looking for?

Are you a decisive, customer-focused and knowledgeable junior professional with a passion for technology and innovation? At Vicoma, we are always open to new talent who want to contribute to a future-proof industry.

Do you want to work on complex industrial challenges?

At Vicoma, you get this opportunity within an organization where craftsmanship, flexibility, and a warm, collegial culture are central. You work alongside colleagues who know the profession inside and out; many have been with the company for years, meaning there is a wealth of knowledge and experience you benefit from every day. At Vicoma, professionals are given the space to take responsibility and work together on solutions that truly make an impact.

What can you expect?

Your role

As a Junior Network Engineer, you contribute to the design and development of secondary systems for high-voltage substations in the Netherlands. This includes control systems, protection systems, cable connections, and the associated technical documentation.

You are involved in projects for clients such as TenneT, Qirion, and Enexis, where existing substations are modernized or expanded. As a junior engineer, you mainly work on clearly defined parts of a project: preparing drawings and calculations, implementing changes in existing documentation, and ensuring that deliverables are completed accurately, fully, and in accordance with standards. You work under the guidance of a medior or senior engineer, who supports you in making decisions, performing checks, and maintaining consistency in the design.

In short: you help build the secondary package, learn the profession in practice, and gradually grow toward greater independent responsibility.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities include, among others:

  • Developing and modifying secondary schematics and drawings (based on existing standards and input from medior/senior engineers);

  • Preparing and maintaining project documentation and deliverables (including lists, connection overviews, and revisions);

  • Performing cable calculations and supporting other in-house calculations for substations;

  • Implementing changes in existing substation documentation and processing “as-built” updates (including checks for completeness and consistency);

  • Performing internal quality checks: are drawings accurate, are revisions correct, are tags/naming conventions consistent, is anything missing?

  • Collaborating with primary engineering, civil engineering, and project management to collect and process input;

  • Participating in technical meetings and learning how client standards, NEN requirements, and project agreements are applied in practice;

  • Working with tools such as ELCAD/AutoCAD, Excel, and Intelec (cable calculations), as well as internal software.

What you are not yet expected to do independently (but will learn)

  • Independently determining the technical direction of a project;

  • Acting as lead toward the client or making major design decisions;

  • Reviewing/approving final deliverables (this is done by your supervisor—you learn the pattern and process).
